Question
How is estimated project progress calculated in Manual Progress Entry projects?
Answer
In a project set to use manual progress entry on tasks, tasks with estimated hours are assigned a weight when calculating Estimated Project progress in Scoping.
Tasks without hour estimates are assigned 0 weight, and therefore when their progress is updated, it doesn't change the value in Estimated project progress.
If a project has 4 tasks and all have hour estimates, updating their progress manually will reflect in estimated project progress.
if only 1 tasks has estimated hours and other 3 tasks have 0h estimates, manually updating progress on any of the 3 tasks will not reflect/update estimated project progress since these tasks have weight = 0.
If all tasks have 0h estimates, updating progress manually on any will impact estimated project progress.
Best use for MPE on tasks, to return most accurate estimated project progress in Scoping is either of following:
- Assign hour estimates on all tasks in the project
- Do not assign hour estimates on ANY tasks in the project, meaning all tasks have 0h estimates.
