Before you start
For a client to see a retainer in their workspace:
The retainer project must be shared to the workspace. See Enabling Client Workspace and Managing Phase Approvals on a Project.
The user must have access to the project. See Adding a User to the Client Workspace.
The client under Workspace needs to have Show Retainer Usage turned on. See Configuring the Client Workspace for a Client.
What your client sees
The Retainer burn page
Retainer burn in the workspace sidebar shows every active retainer the user can see, for the current period. Each retainer shows:
The period name and dates, and how many working days are left.
The percentage of the period's target used, and the hours used out of the target.
The hours remaining.
A bar for each recent period, so the client can see the trend.
Colors show whether a period is Within target, Approaching limit or Over target. The current period is marked as partial.
The Retainer tab on a project
Selecting View detail on a retainer, or opening a retainer project, shows a Retainer tab next to the project's Overview. It includes:
A summary: the retainer type (for example, Fixed Hours), total target, hours used to date and the retainer's dates.
Periods: every period with its target, hours used, hours remaining and burn. The client can filter by Past, Current or Future periods.
Tasks: the tasks in a chosen period.
Where the numbers come from
The hours your client sees come from your team's own time registrations in Forecast. Time your team logs against the retainer project counts towards the period it falls in.
Tip: Because the workspace reflects your team's time records, keep time entries up to date on retainer projects, especially near the end of a period.
Settings that affect retainers
