Project Status Basics
Project Status refers to the current state of a project. It is a snapshot of where the project stands at a given point in time and may identify the project's progress, timeline, budget or other key metrics. Project Status is used by project managers to track a project's overall health and to identify areas where improvements may be needed.
Project Status Types
Project managers indicate the status of a project by making use of the available status types. There are three (3) project statuses in Forecast based on the visual RAG status definitions.
Status | Color | Definition |
---|---|---|
Green | The project is progressing as planned and is likely to be completed on time and within budget | |
Amber | There are some issues or risks that could potentially impact the project's timeline, or budget but they can still be managed effectively. | |
Red | The project is significantly behind due to reasons such as schedule, budget constraints, or is facing major risks that threaten successful completion. |
Setting Project Status
Project Status is set in the project's Settings.
To set a project's status
- Click Projects in the navigation bar.
- Select All Projects from the dropdown.
- Open the project.
- Click Settings in the left side panel.
- Click Status.
- Scroll down to Project Status.
- Click into the field, What are your thoughts on the status of the project?
- Select the project status.
- In Description, add details to support the project's status.
- Click Update Status.
To view a project's status history
- Open the project.
- Click Settings in the left side panel.
- Click Status.
- Scroll down to Project Status.
- The current status appears at the top.
- Expand Status History to review the historical project statuses and descriptions.
