Using Project Status

Project status is a crucial aspect of project management as it helps project managers monitor progress, identify issues, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. By keeping track of the project status, project managers can make informed decisions and take action to ensure that the project is completed successfully.

Project Status Basics

Project Status refers to the current state of a project. It is a snapshot of where the project stands at a given point in time and may identify the project's progress, timeline, budget or other key metrics. Project Status is used by project managers to track a project's overall health and to identify areas where improvements may be needed.

Project Status Types

Project managers indicate the status of a project by making use of the available status types. There are three (3) project statuses in Forecast based on the visual RAG status definitions.

Status	Color	Definition
	Green	The project is progressing as planned and is likely to be completed on time and within budget
	Amber	There are some issues or risks that could potentially impact the project's timeline, or budget but they can still be managed effectively.
	Red	The project is significantly behind due to reasons such as schedule, budget constraints, or is facing major risks that threaten successful completion.

Setting Project Status

Project Status is set in the project's Settings. 

To set a project's status

1. Click Projects in the navigation bar.
2. Select All Projects from the dropdown.
3. Open the project.
4. Click Settings in the left side panel.
5. Click Status.
6. Scroll down to Project Status.
7. Click into the field, What are your thoughts on the status of the project?
8. Select the project status.
9. In Description, add details to support the project's status.
   
10. Click Update Status. 

To view a project's status history

1. Open the project.
2. Click Settings in the left side panel.
3. Click Status.
4. Scroll down to Project Status.
5. The current status appears at the top.
6. Expand Status History to review the historical project statuses and descriptions.
