The integration between Azure DevOps (ADO) and Forecast allows developers to collaborate with other teams and access information held in distributed systems in the end-to-end software delivery value stream.
This article covers:
About the ADO Integration
The ADO integration synchronizes projects between ADO and Forecast promoting a combined workflow across both platforms to improve collaboration and transparency between product management and development teams. Project Management teams receive traceability for each work item at each level of development, and ADO users are informed about iteration schedules and changes/improvements made to a customer request.
The following ADO work item types synchronize to Forecast as tasks:
- Product Backlog Item
- User Story
- Issue
- Bug (depending on the 'Sync bugs in ADO' setting on project)
Connecting the Integration
Setting up the integration requires an account with Admin access in both Forecast and ADO.
- In ADO, Third-party application access via OAuth must be enabled.
Enabling the Third-party OAuth in ADO
Administrators enable third-party application access via OAuth, which allows Forecast to authenticate in ADO.
To enable third-party application access via OAuth
- Navigate to ADO environment as an Admin.
- Click on Organization Settings in the bottom left corner.
- Click on Policies.
- Enable Third-party application access via OAuth.
Authenticating ADO in Forecast
Once Third-party application access via OAuth is enabled in ADO, you can link your ADO domain with Forecast.
To authenticate ADO in Forecast
- In Forecast, click Admin in the navigation bar.
- Select Integrations from the dropdown.
- Click on Azure DevOps.
- Choose the ADO Estimate Field (Original Estimate, Story Points, Effort)
Note: ADO Estimate Field identifies if projects use Original Estimate, Story points or Effort. If the estimate type differs between the platforms for a project, the information will not synchronize properly. Both projects must use the same estimate type. - In Account, enter the ADO account/domain name.
- Click Link.
- Log in with your Microsoft account.
- Click Accept for permission to access ADO.
Note: If you are already logged into ADO on your computer, you may not be prompted to complete this step.
Projects and tasks can now be synchronized between ADO and Forecast. Any newly added and/or updated data automatically stays up-to-date.
Disconnecting the Integration
The ADO integration can be disconnected at any time. Once the integration is disconnected, projects and tasks are no longer synced across platforms.
To disconnect the ADO integration
- In Forecast, click Admin in the navigation bar.
- Select Integrations from the dropdown.
- Click on Azure DevOps.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Click on Unlink.
