Allocating people to projects is one of the two Resource Management settings that Forecast offers. This setting is based on the Agile approach of project management which let you assign your resources to projects, instead of tasks. This is particularly useful if you use short cycles of project work to allow for rapid production and constant revision, as it gives you more freedom to plan around your resources on the spot.

Agile approach to Project Management
In project management, deploying an Agile approach means that content, schedule, plan, and the approach to how you handle a project is adapted throughout that project run time.
For example, at some point during the project's lifecycle, you might require to make some changes to how you tackle an issue within the project and have to reassign resources quickly. With Forecasts 'Allocate people to projects' resource management setting, you can do this effortlessly.
Allocating people to projects
This part of the article will go over how this setting works and how it affects the resource heatmap.
How it works
By choosing this resource management setting, the system will be basing all of its allocations on the schedule people page on Projects and not on tasks. This means that in the Resource Heatmap you will:
- View people's schedules based on the project allocations that you create for them during that period.
- When you wish to create a new allocation that is not Internal time or Time off (non-project options) it will be based on projects.
Calculation of time on Resource Heatmap (Schedule People)
The heatmap calculations are also impacted depending on the settings used. Specifically, if you allocate a resource to 10 hours worth of project time, then those 10 hours will be spread across the dates that the allocation is running for. So if the allocation is running for 4 days, then each day the resource will see 2.5 hours of work related to that project.
