What is changing?
We have been working to improve your task management experience, by redesigning the way subtasks work. This update provides you with nesting capabilities, estimates, assignees and start and end dates for all your sub-tasks going forward.
Customers that have joined prior to March 1st 2022, and are using subtasks today, will have three months to migrate their subtasks within their projects’ settings. Once the migration is complete, the ‘Task Sub-levels’ will be replaced with the new ‘Subtasks’ sections.
Subtasks will be automatically converted into To-Do’s, unless you personally choose how to migrate them to the new structure. Your existing To-Dos will remain intact.
Why is Forecast changing sub-tasks
Forecast’s new subtasks will help you break down more complex pieces of work, track progress more accurately and provide more autonomy and self-sufficiency to individuals that need to complete the work.
With the new subtasks structure, you will have the ability to nest different tasks underneath each other, by creating a 'parent' task and as many subtasks as you like under it.
Moreover, the new subtasks structure will come with:
- Subtask estimates;
- Subtask assignees;
- Subtask start and end dates.
What do I need to do?
You will have until June 1st 2022 to choose the conversion of your choice for your old subtasks to the new ones. After these three months, we’ll convert any remaining project subtasks into to-dos.
To convert your subtasks
- Head over to your project.
- Click on Settings.
- Under ‘Task Sub-levels’ click on Convert.
- In the pop-up, select the type of conversion you want to use for your project’s subtasks:
- Convert into new subtasks
Move all current subtasks into the new subtask hierarchy based on the data from the old subtask and its parent task. The new subtask contains estimates, assignees and timeline.
- Convert into to-do’s and keep remaining time
Keep the project totals unchanged by having a manual remaining time and converting subtasks into to-do’s. Note: If the project is set back to 'automatically calculate remaining time', the project total will change.
- Convert into to-do’s and remove remaining time (default if no action)
All project subtasks will be converted into to-do’s, removing the remaining time. The time estimate will also be removed from its parent task, if you have automatic remaining time calculation on this project.
- Review your project totals, at the bottom of the pop-up
- Click on Accept.
